In late May/early June, I had the opportunity to attend BookCon (or at least, the final day) and BookExpo 2018; my first experience with this show.
I first found out about this convention during my San Diego Comic Con experience, and through reading some books, I found out the existence of this show.
The two shows are vastly different in its purpose.
BookExpo seems to be a publisher's conference call with so many representatives of different publishing houses getting together, interacting with readers and authors; very professional.

BookCon is more in lines of my experience as a convention goer; cosplayers walking around, free giveaways, etc.

However, both have at least two things in common: celebrating books and encouraging new readers.
Sadly, I was only able to attend one event: a promotion for the James Patterson book "The President is Missing" which he co-wrote with fmr. President Bill Clinton.

BookCon and BookExpo was a unique experience for me in that it was the first convention that celebrated the art of words (though, there were some comic book writers there as well), and I hope to attend it again very soon.
