International Sailor Moon Day 2016
Thousands of people around the world are fans of the girl that fights evil by moonlight and wins love by daylight, Sailor Moon! One particularly dedicated fan group, Sailor Moon LA, decided to start a yearly event in honor of the Sailor Moon series. On August 6th, a spacious park in Los Angeles was filled with vendors, cosplayers, and performers all fitting the Sailor Moon theme.
The event was free for all - adults and kids alike could be seen relaxing on picnic blankets, enjoying the performances. A small stage was home to two different musical acts during the day, Stephanie Yanez and Plasmic. There were tons of fun activities scattered around the park that people of all ages could enjoy. A big blanket was home to a large collection of games. A coloring section dedicated to the little ones at the event was crowded by kids showing off their artistic skills. Tarot readers were seated underneath a decorated wishing tree. The setting made for a magical, relaxing get-together.
What gathering would be complete without cosplayers? All around the park, cosplayers were donning their Sailor Moon best. Some stuck with the original outfits from the shows, while others put their own unique twist on the characters. The event ended with a cosplay contest run by several cosplay guests. The best kids costume award went to Zoey B. for her adorable Chibi Moon and Jazmine L. as Luna P. The first place in the main cosplay contest went home with the duo Ariane B. as Sailor Uranus and Rikku B. as Sailor Neptune.
Overall, the event turned out to be a great day for Los Angeles Sailor Moon fans. The group plans to host another event next year as well.
