STORY STUDY - MEDIUM: COMICS/GRAPHIC NOVELS - “Lucy & Andy Neanderthal”
This week’s topic will be a little different. It will be about a graphic novel… but it’s one that hasn’t been released yet.
(Also, a little disclaimer, if my terminology is misused, I’m sorry. I’m not an archaeologist, scientist, or doctor.)
Ever wondered how life was like 40,000 years ago? Well, some of it involved mammoth hunting, tool making (from rocks), creating cave art, making clothes, etc.
Written by Jeffrey Brown, Lucy & Andy Neanderthal is the story of a Neanderthal family/clan going through daily life. Each chapter plays off like a sitcom: quick plot interspersed with humorous moments. All the stories end with a tag set in the present day with two archaeologists explaining in detail of what the Neanderthals went through and the how.
The language used by the Neanderthals is modern day English. Even the characters’ names are contemporary.
As I’m writing this, San Diego Comic-Con 2016 has recently passed, and Lucy & Andy Neanderthal was one of the books I was able to get for free. Also, as of writing this post, the comic is still being perfected, since the book that I have contains typos and “art not final” in the latter half of the book. This may be common knowledge for con goers, but this year was my first time, and I was surprised.
The end of the book teases a Book 2 in 2017.
I’m not too into this kind of story, but I felt that I should talk about a book that was being promoted and handed out at Comic-Con.
The book comes out in August 2016.
Dig it up, and check it out.
