Announcement - STORY STUDY
Hello, everyone.
So, since I am now contributing to Red Panda Press, I was thinking what could I write and post here other than recaps of conventions and events.
Since I watch a lot of movies/TV/animation and stage plays/musicals, read books/comics/graphic novels, and play a few video games, I want to be able to write out my thoughts of what are the works that fascinate or influence myself as a writer and possibly as a person.
It's called STORY STUDY: An exploration of storytelling.
As the title suggests, this series of blogs is meant to dive into the story of a variety of mediums. I will talk about the characters, the tone, the atmosphere/setting, and of course, the story. Specifically, I will summarize the story as if it's interesting enough to watch/read/play.
A few warnings: 1) These will NOT be REVIEWS of said works. At least, I don't want to consider these "reviews." This series is meant to give notice to titles whose unique stories are not often spoken about in the popular conscience. Of course, there will be comments of factors that stand out, but that's just to prepare you for what you're in for so you can choose if you want to pick it up.
2) For comic books/graphic novels, I will only cover limited series (i.e. Watchmen, Superman: Red Son) and specific story arcs (i.e. Batman: Hush). For ongoing series, I will use a specific volume of the collected paperbacks, which typically features six issues at a time.
3) There won't be a lot of posts for novels. Not only do I understand it's asking too much for someone to pick up a 200+ page book, I'm also not that much of a book reader myself. Sure, I'm getting into it right now during my free time, but it's difficult to describe how "well" or "engrossing" the prose is written, when I can get easily distracted. The point is, since I have grown up with more visual media, I want to talk about that.
The purpose of this series is to share titles so you can check it out for yourself, and see if you agree/disagree, but more importantly, give it more attention. Will there be posts about the biggest/popular titles? Of course... if I'm able to give my own take/response to it. If it's THAT popular, there will be plenty of other videos and blogs that talk about it.
I haven't decided if this will be a weekly post, but I will certainly try to keep it updated as much as possible.
Please enjoy!
